Rooms Kazbegi in Stepantsminda opened in 2012, and the whole Rooms brand began with it. In Soviet times there was a sanatorium here, and the hotel grew out of this modernist complex, now clad in wood. Its owners say that Kazbegi is what put Georgia on the map as a place to travel to.

Here everything is about the view. From the broad terrace that runs the length of the building you see snow-capped Mount Kazbek and the Gergeti Trinity Church. Inside are warm tones and natural materials, like a mountain hideaway: worn brick, reclaimed wood, cognac-coloured leather and a curated mix of historic and contemporary furniture. Rooms face the mountains or the forest, and there is an indoor pool, a sauna and a spa.

The Kazbegi Kitchen restaurant pays homage to classic Georgian cuisine and local seasonal produce, and the wine list is built from Georgian wines, qvevri wine among them. Cocktails are served in the Lobby Bar, whose terrace faces Kazbek and Gergeti. At night guests watch the stars from the wide lawn: in the mountains no city light drowns them out.
