“King of poets”
1892–1959

Galaktion was called the “king of poets”: his musical, symbolist lyric (“Mary”, “The Moon of Mtatsminda”, “Blue Horses”) defined the sound of 20th-century Georgian verse.
His fate was tragic: the terror of the 1930s took his loved ones (his cousin Titsian Tabidze was executed), and in 1959 Galaktion took his own life in Tbilisi.
